Vintage used bridal wedding gown. 1971.
Off-white vintage bridal wedding gown from another era, 1971. I am guessing
the inner gown fabric is a rayon acetate. It has a paper-like back. The back zipper is metal with a hook and sewn
eye at the top. The trim is possibly cotton and has yellowed nicely. The appliques are white and they are glued on. The pearls
between the appliques down the entire front center of the gown are sewn on. None are loose or missing.
The detachable train attaches with two hooks onto stitched eyes. It is the same
fabric as the underside of the gown without the paper back but only goes to the length of the gown skirt. Three flat
net layers, one being shorter (the skirt length part of the train) and two are the full length of the train.
This gown has a high collar, long full sleeves lined in tulle ending in a tight cuff
with snap closure. The bodice above the underside of the gown is also lined in tulle.
The measurements for this gown being held flat are:
Bust: 17" Front seam to seam underarms
16.5" Back seam to
Waist: 14.5" front, doubled = 29"
Hip: 18" front, doubled= 36"
Length shoulder seam at collar seam to hem 54.5"
No size label. Possibly size 0.
The gown is exceptional for it's age. It is ready to wear with a slight pressing of the
bottom of the train. The yellowing that gives vintage it's beautiful hue is just right...soft and even. The fabric has not
lost it's crispness due to cleaning. There is a Garment Workers Union label sewn into the gown. I'm always excited to find
Gown is clean and unstained. No rips, tears or other defects found. Condition is excellent
including taking into account the normal color changes in vintage wear and further enhancing it.
